I'm a software developer of three decades or more. I fell in love with code as a teenager. I've spent a career designing and building huge applications as well as making many personal side projects in my spare time.

I've always got a kick out of creating things, and breathing life into them. It's an itch I have to scratch otherwise I get grouchy!

When 2026 rolled around I realised AIs were so good at writing code that I no longer needed to get my hands dirty. It's still fun to make things with AI, but I miss the craft and creative problem solving of doing it by hand.

Then it occured to me that maybe writing stories was a bit like writing code.

Maybe the (now obsolete) skills I'd built up over 30+ years might just be transferable to creating fiction.

Only time will tell, but right now it feels like it's scratching the itch.

What I write

We stand on the precipice of a change that will make the industrial revolution look like a damp squid.

AI will touch every aspect of our lives and culture, with far reaching consequences.

Aliens landing on the white house lawn would have less impact.

I decided to write about the future we're racing towards. Where AI is powerful and ubiquitous. It will bring tremendous benefits and gigantic consquences. It will be a Jagged Future with sharp edges that need to be handled with care.
